Gambino Files:How Joe Watts Made $7 Million in One Day?
Joseph Watts, AKA “The German” because he was Italina on his mother’s side and German on his father’s side, therefore he could not become a made man.
However, he was an enormous asset to John Gotti as a great earner and confidant to the Don. He was also a backup shooter for the famous hit on Paul Castellano and Thomas Billoti.
Watts, knowing that Castellano was to be taken out, made a real estate deal with him, asking The Boss for five-million dollars. Paul agreed, knowing that Joe made plenty of money for him in the past.
“Tommy will bring you the money in a couple of days.” Paul said.
As Tommy walked Joe out of the Todt Hill mansion, he questioned Joe, “The boss has plenty of money. Why didn’t you count me in on the deal?”
Watts assured him that there was plenty of room for him in the investment, too. Tommy brought him two-million-dollars plus the five of Paul’s. Seven million in total and Joe Watts walked away with it all.
Later, Castellano and Billotti were murdered in front of Sparks Steak House in Manhattan in 1985. After their deaths, they handed Joe Tommy’s black loan book and made more millions for himself. It sure takes guts and shrewdness to pull something like that off.
In 2011, he was convicted for his part in another murder and sentenced to thirteen years in prison. He was released in 2022, still alive and obviously doing well. Joe Watts is 81.
